NDCDE-NDSU Dual Credit Course Information: COMM 133

Course name and description: COMM 133: Introduction to Agricultural Communication
This course provides an introduction to agricultural communication as a professional field. The course will also provide an overview of career options and professional skills and competencies required of agricultural communications.

North Dakota High School Course Code (MIS03): This course counts as a single semester (.5 credit) high school course. The MIS03 code assigned to it is: 05111. The North Dakota Center for Distance Education issues high school credit for this course in the form of a completion certificate upon successful completion. Students must download the completion certificate and present it to their high school to receive credit. NDCDE will automatically transcribe high school credits for its diploma students upon successful completion.

NDSU Credit: This course is worth three college credits transcribed by NDSU upon successful completion of the course.

  • NDSU majors applicability: This course also applies to the following majors: Agricultural Communication and Natural Resource Management (Environmental Sustainability Emphasis). This list may not be all-inclusive, and you are encouraged to visit with NDSU about course applicability to your intended major or minor.
  • Transferability: If you intend to transfer this credit to an institution outside the North Dakota University System, please contact them to inquire about transferability.

Course Material and Technical Requirements:

  • Textbooks, materials, and technology requirements may vary by instructor, but generally, no textbook is required for this course. However, students will use a variety of online resources to learn and complete projects. High-quality internet for class for participating via Zoom, including a camera, and viewing videos is required. Two great resources are Grammarly and the Purdue Online Writing Lab (OWL). A new resource is the e-textbook Agricultural and Natural Resources Communications. Access to Blackboard and your NDSU email account 

Notes: Upon completion of the registration process, an NDSU staff member will assist students with purchasing course materials, receiving an NDSU email address, and accessing Blackboard. The NDSU Help Desk is available to help you with any technical problems.

Registration Process & Requirements: Students will complete the registration form linked below. As part of this registration form, you will be prompted to download and have a school official complete a dual credit permission form, which you will upload upon completion using instructions provided by NDCDE. Students will also be required to submit transcripts to NDSU.  Ask your high school counselor or a school official to send your official transcript. Your transcript should be signed by a school official and include all coursework, grades, and graduation date, if applicable.

  • Where to Send: High school transcripts may be mailed, sent via secure file service such as Parchment or Scoir, or emailed directly to ndsu.apply@ndsu.edu by a school counselor or official.
  • Transcripts received from students will not be accepted.

Once you complete these steps, an NDSU staff member will work with you to receive access to NDSU’s email, Blackboard, purchase course materials, and provide guidance on how to pay for the course.

Course Policies: Course policies may vary by instructor. Samples are outlined in the NDSU sample syllabus for this course. In addition, students are required to follow NDSU’s academic policies.

Course Duration: These courses follow the NDSU semester calendar, including the university’s registration deadlines and course end dates. Courses are traditional semester length (not accelerated). Tuition and Fees: Information on tuition and fees can be found on NDSU's Dual Credit Webpage. NDCDE-NDSU courses follow the unsubsidized tuition rate per credit. North Dakota students/families are responsible for the cost of dual credit courses.
