Registration & Tuition Rates
NDCDE now offers Accelerate ASU — an opportunity to take dual credit courses online, taught by ASU professors. It’s flexible, affordable, and designed to support their future success.
Accelerate ASU is now available at NDCDE, providing access to over 20 online college courses taught by Arizona State University faculty. These courses are designed to be flexible and accessible, with no transcript or application requirements. Students must meet eligibility criteria under North Dakota law to enroll in these courses, which NDCDE verifies during the enrollment process by the student’s school or parent (if the student is homeschooled) completing our authorization form.
This program offers a cost-effective way for students to explore college-level learning and earn widely transferable college credits while still in high school.
Cost
All ASU courses cost $250 for North Dakota and out of state students.
Format
NDCDE has chosen to offer ASU’s on-demand courses. On-demand is a course you can start today that can be completed at your own pace. You must spend a minimum of 6 weeks enrolled in the course and have 1 year to complete it. These courses are asynchronous, which means they do not have any live content. If a school wants a student to finish sooner, they will need to hold students to any such deadlines locally. NDCDE cannot adjust the course run date as all courses run through the ASU LMS.
Drops and Refunds
Students have 21 days from course enrollment to drop the course and not be billed for the enrollment. NDCDE will send students and learning coaches an email reminder six days before this deadline. Drop forms submitted over the weekend will be processed on Monday—we encourage families to submit these forms early to avoid missing the refund deadline.
Eligibility for North Dakota Students
Per NDCC Ch. 15.1-25:
- Must be in grade ten, eleven, or twelve
- The student must obtain written permission from the student's school district superintendent. The student's school district superintendent shall determine the number of credits for which the student is eligible and shall include the number of credits on the document granting permission required by this section.
- The student and the student's parent or legal guardian are responsible for all costs of attendance at a postsecondary institution
Eligibility for Out-of-State Students
NDCDE is authorized under law to award high school credit for dual credit courses to out of state students. Please check your state laws on any restrictions on dual credit enrollment, ensuring you have satisfied them before enrolling. We will ask you to verify this on the dual credit approval form. At a minimum, NDCDE requires parents to approve dual credit for out of state students.
Registration Process: NOTE: To receive NDCDE high school credit, students must register for ASU classes using the steps outlined below.
- Families will complete the registration process through the NDCDE store, including paying for each course selected.
- Students, parents, and learning coaches will be prompted to complete the NDCDE-ASU Dual Credit Authorization form. This form is due to NDCDE within 15 days after starting courses. Failure to submit this form will be grounds for automatically dropping students and issuing a refund.
- After you register, you will receive an email to activate their ASURITE ID. (Here’s a resource detailing the full student onboarding experience). Learners should click the emailed link to activate their ASURITE and gain access to their student dashboard, linked to the partnership. If they’re having trouble finding the email, check the spam folder.
- After activating their ID, learners will need to verify their identification (detailed in the full student experience document).
- Learners will see the courses they registered for in their dashboard and can begin learning.
Learning Environment
Students will use the ASU LMS to take courses. They must comply with all ASU course policies outlined in the syllabus and NDCDE policies. They will also have access to their high school grades through NDCDE’s student information system, Genius. An email will be sent to students on how to access both systems.
Learning Coach Requirements
You will be required to have a learning coach for these courses. The learning coach must meet NDCDE criteria. Students will need to grant learning coaches and parents observer access in the ASU LMS in order for them to track progress. ASU has provided instructions on how students can do this. NDCDE will also send this information to Learning Coaches and parents upon enrollment and will send a follow-up email to ensure this access was granted. Students who do not grant this access within 15 days will be dropped from their courses and a refund issued.
Progress Updates
Because students take courses in the ASU LMS, NDCDE’s standard progress update emails to parents and learning coaches are not available for these courses. Parents and learning coaches track student progress through observer access in the ASU LMS. NDCDE may send learners progress status reminders and individual emails if they are significantly behind pace or below a C at key intervals.

Grades
Taking ASU courses is low risk—students decide if the course will be transcribed for college credit. Learners that complete courses will only have the ability to convert grades of “C” or higher for academic credit. To convert grades to ASU credits, students will follow the following process. NDCDE will issue a final grade for a course regardless of whether a student decides to transcribe the course for college credit. The NDCDE grade will count as high school credit.
FAQ
Will my ASU credits transfer to a North Dakota college or university or institutions besides ASU?
ASU is a regionally accredited and world-renowned institution, but we strongly recommend checking with your intended college or university to ensure it will accept ASU credit and how these credits will apply to your intended major. While ASU offers 70+ courses to high school students, NDCDE has only selected courses that are on-demand and applicable to ASU general education requirements, which are similar to many college and university requirements.
Why is some of the information NDCDE has listed on this page different than the information on https://ulc.asu.edu/?
NDCDE has entered into a MOU with ASU, which changes some of the terms and conditions under which ASU courses are offered. For example, NDCDE is able to offer course to students for $250, but at this discounted rate, students are required to follow the requirements specified here.
How do I receive High School Credit?
After you successfully complete the course, you must download a Completion Certificate from the NDCDE Genius system and give it to your high school. Instructions will be emailed to you at the end of the term.
Who pays for these courses?
Per NDCC Ch. 15.1-25, North Dakota families must pay for dual credit courses. For out-of-state students, please check with your local school on any related laws or policies.
What are the technology requirements for these courses?
ASU has outlined its technology requirements on their Technical Requirement Page.
What support is available to students taking these courses?
ASU has comprehensive support outlined on their Help Center.
Are textbooks required?
No, everything you need is built into the courses.
