Medical Hardship Enrollment Hold

If a student is not able to work on a course or courses for an extended period due to medical issues (including mental health) or extenuating life circumstances, the course enrollment(s) of the student can be placed on a one time only hold, for up to 20 weeks. While the hold is in place the student will not have access to the course.

A formal request via student, guardian, or school along with documentation from a healthcare provider (when applicable) and must be sent to the NDCDE Administration. All hold requests must be approved by the individual who paid for the enrollment and by the NDCDE Administration.

The maximum hold of 20 weeks for each course will begin on the date the hold is put in place in NDCDE’s Student Information System. If a student wants to be reinstated in a course before the 20-week hold has ended a formal ‘Request for Reinstatement’ needs to be completed. Otherwise, when the 20-week hold period has ended the course will be reinstated and the student’s end date will reflect the amount of time left in the course when he/she requested the hold.

Holds do not count toward the one-time only extension policy. Therefore, if more time is necessary, an extension must be purchased by the new end date or 0s will be entered for all unsubmitted work and a final course grade will be issued.
